:   8 innings, 233 runs, 2 fifties, HS of 71 and a strike rate of 106. Best innings was 66 off 33 v Harrovian. He also shared in the record 173 run partnership with Howard.

:   New Kid on the block and it already feels like he has been around for ages. Has brought a few things to our middle order including some much needed stability. A delightful back foot punch through the covers and a sort of ‘I’ve got this’ level of confidence. 270 runs, 1 x 50 and 5 scores of 35 and above is a handy return in your first full season. But when you add in that it was a match winning innings against The Gamblers for our only win on tour, his 44 against the Maidens held the innings toge

:   Clayden has been on the periphery of the Trundlers selection for a while and this season he has managed to forge his way into the team. The two standout innings were the first two when he was still playing for his place in the team, so immense credit to play under that kind of pressure. After the Bohemians game (an astonishing innings - see champagne moment), Howard averaged a reasonable 228 for the season. Given his late season dip in form, he will be awaiting anxiously to see if he can make the

:   An incredibly consistent season from Vicey, with a final average of over 100 which is extraordinary. He rarely looked out of touch, his timing particularly through the offside was impeccable and he paced his innings beautifully. Three unbeaten fifties in there, but my favourite innings was actually the 25 not out against the Bohos in our 20/20. Having been super grumpy at batting number 7, he went in with only two or three overs to go and smashed 25 at a 200 strike rate. It proved to be critical

:   An incredibly consistent season from Vicey, with no failures in his 9 innings. He rarely looked out of touch, his timing particularly through the offside was impeccable and he paced his innings beautifully. The knock against Bohemians was one of the finest Trundlers innings ever, against a really strong attack setting us up for fantastic run chase. An outstanding season average of 57.17. Became the second Trundler to reach 1,000 career runs too.
    • 2016
:   Steve started the season solidly and finished with a flourish, hitting fifties in 3 of his last 4 innings, scoring at some pace with some of the cleanest hitting this side of Joss Buttler’s back garden. Both Maidens knocks were special setting up unlikely wins chasing first 157 and then 181 both off 20 overs. Boy must they hate the sight of our velvet jacketed hero.A great season
    • 2015
:   Gone are the slogs and swipes, replaced instead by an attacking approach with more considered shot selection. He knows when to be patient and show some “dead bat” to see off the good bowlers, or when to go on the front foot and give ‘em what for. Yes, still surprised the bowlers don’t place a man at cow corner but, most of the time it would go over his head anyway – so clean has he been hitting the ball this season. Over 50% of Steve’s innings have resulted in scores of 30 plus
    • 2014
:   The year when Buxton’s batting promise finally turned into runs for the Trundlers. As you can see from the list of scores above, once he’s negotiated the first few overs he’s away. The innings against Chigwell is definitely the highlight – brutal power mixed with watchful defence. The boy has become a man.

:   Awarded to Grainger as our most prolific runscorer of the season, our sole half-centurion, and the purveyor of the pinkest cricket bat known to creation.

    • 2021
:   Yes him again! Yet again top wicket taker with 23. At times, seemed like the only bowler we had in the team – the 5 for 7 off 8 overs against the Hors stands out when no one else took any wickets or went for less than 6 an over!. Chipped in with wickets in most games and as usual was generally miserly (not to mention his economy rate was decent too, going for only 4.7 an over for the whole season). All that bowling did detract from his write-ups this season and he still hasn’t learned to warm

:   This is a brilliant Trundlers story. Be honest, how many of you thought a couple of years ago that Morley would be a genuine contender for bowler of the year, but that’s exactly what he is. 14 wickets and the best strike rate of all the award nominees, Morley has found his thing. It’s all about the length. Just short of a good length with a bit of loop, it’s a nightmare for attacking batsmen who get lulled into thinking he is there for the taking. Some absolutely critical wickets in the season (
    • 2018
:   An awesome return of 21 wickets, his second most prolific season. Some great highlights in here. There were 4 matches when we bowled second and won by less than 10 runs. In three of them Olly bowled magnificently making very telling contributions (v Ashridge, v Bohos on 6 June and v Strollers on 27 June – see analysis above). And then there was that opening burst v The Maidens.
    • 2017
:   The skipper has not been a regular bowler over the years and has always considered himself a stock bowler whose job is to keep the runs down. But somehow this season that started to change. With a strike rate of a wicket every 14 balls, he doubled his all time Trundlers wickets in one season. Only Olly has ever taken more wickets in a Trundler season. And then of course there was the all time Trundlers best bowling of 6 for 15 in just 5 heady overs on the plains of Montenegro..
    • 2016
:   Just look at those figures. Incredible consistency from Vicey. The one stat that’s not up there is strike rate. An astonishing wicket every 11 balls. He has definitely come of age as a spinner, regularly putting the ball exactly where he wants it and varying his pace skilfully – the quicker ball became a deadly weapon during 2016. And of course, that spell against Cuxham ripped them apart for the second best Trundler figures ever.
    • 2015
:   This year, we have seen real control from our opener. Accuracy comes before pace. The “Angus Fraser” approach has reaped rewards. It would have been unjust if the first Trundler 5-for had been claimed by anyone else, and to be honest no-one else really came close this season. We should not though single out one performance, because if there is one thing you could rely on this season – it was Olly’s reliability.
    • 2014
:   The big man’s best ever return for a season and yet he still didn’t get the quantity of wickets that his bowling deserved. Incrediby consistent, often hostile and sometimes unplayable. Whilst the Cuxham hat trick got the headlines, he bowled way better in other games. His spell against Marsa was crucial and got its reward with the vital wicket of their key (if very unorthodox) batsman as he was getting going. In many of his other spells, he bowled just as well (Chigwell, Archway Ladder, Bohemian

:   They say cricket is a team game. Well what do THEY know. This was a game when 10 of our players were virtually spectators and one man singlehandlehandy did the job of 11. Here are the bare stats: He scored 96 runs including 10 sixes, The next highest score by a Trundler was 13, He bowled 4 overs conceding 8 runs in an innings where the oppo scored 199 off 20 overs, All other bowlers bar one went for an economy rate in double figures. Has there ever been a more complete Trundler performance? (Sad

:   The first match of the tour, the Trundlers were somewhat jaded form a large night in split the night before (see Laurel and Hardy moment for more on that). We batted first and started fairly slowly on a wicket that demanded 8 an over to be competitive. In about the 16th over out strode Monsieur Buxton with a lot of work to do, and boy did he go big (with a little help from Vicey too it has to be said). Stuttering along on 101 after 16 overs, an absolute blitz over the last 4 overs took us to 169

:   Best described from Joe’s match report: “At the back of Olly’s mind it started to dawn on him that he must be getting close-ish to a ton. He got no clues from the boundary. We all knew he had made it into the 90s but we were absolutely not going to jinx it. Bridget, brimming with pride, but feigning indifference, chatted to Fi about pretty much anything other than what her man could be about to do. Olly’s batting, so powerful and deliberate throughout the rest of his innings, became a bit more s

:   Richard hitting a 50 in the Dads v Kids match Now forgive me for listing the prior scores of Trundler Morris but I think they are important evidence in demonstrating why this is more than a worthy contender for champagne moment of the year. Richard’s scores for the Trundlers prior to 2016 were (in chronological order) 2, 0*, 0, 2*, 0, 3, 2, 0*. So yes, that is an all time highest score of 3. So an amazing achievement(even if it was against a bunch of 11 year olds and he was dropped 6 times!)

:   Adam becoming the first Trundler to score a century I am most impressed when people do things with style. It’s fair to say that in all the years I have known the skipper, “Style” & “Adam Frais” are not words used in the same sentence. Not on this occasion. Getting off the mark with a 6, to fifty with a 6 and to his Century with a 6 shows a style and confidence way beyond previous expectations. He raised the bar for everyone else, myself included. This was his first spell in the limelight,Then something deep in Grainger’s psyche intervened. He beheld the ball, loping guilelessly through the air nearby with enough momentum, if he left it, to vouchsafe this young man his run. But animal instinct overwhelmed the Trundlers Vice-Captain. He snatched at it. He gobbled it.

:   If Bonfield made his mark in 2018, he delivered in 2019. A maiden 50 in the season opener against the Railway Taverners proving critical in a gnats chuff of a tight game. Swiftly followed by 47 not out against the Irregulars and another quality knock against SLOBs of 27. So all his 3 highest knocks of the season were in winning causes. But the stats don’t tell the whole story. It was the overall confidence at the crease, the quality of the shotmaking. Great to see. I should also mention Dunc’s f

:   If I tell you that Bonfield’s 3 highest Trundler scores all came in 2018, that he scored almost 50% of his lifetime Trundler runs in 2018, you’ll get the idea that it was most definitely a career changing season. But the stats don’t tell the whole story. It was the overall confidence at the crease, the quality of the shotmaking. Great to see. And who can forget the two sixes he hit, both over long off and both probably still travelling into orbit. One at Highgate against the Irregulars, and one

:   Now, just because this event also qualified for Champagne Moment does not count it out from this award. The awards committee consulted the rule book, and rule numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 all state that the Trundlers are free spirits and we simply don’t play by the norms of others. So let’s not underestimate this achievement. A half century is a big deal. And Bruce is the first Unsung Hero to achieve that landmark. Would anyone have thought it possible when we started that our, shall we say, less accom

:   Now here is a man who has come a long way in a short space of time. Who could have possibly thought a year or two ago that Rob Grays would be a genuine bowling option for the Trundlers. But somehow his lolloping pineapples are really hard to hit. There’s no pace on the ball and he’s started to bowl a nagging line and length. Nowhere was this better demonstrated than against Pimlico Strollers where the man took 3 crucial wickets. They were totally bamboozled. Step forward our latest bowling weapo

:   Bruce Hayward (match winning 24 in the tour match in Malta) the situation did not call for panic, but it was sobering seeing such a talismanic strokesman returning to the pavilion so beleaguered. Not to worry: Hayward, one of our few genuine sportsmen, strode out. He took a few swings and misses to get the measure of the pitch, but soon began putting the ball to all corners of the ground, the run rate ticked up, and before long he and Colley had doubled the team’s score

:   England is a place where rain is not simply a glitch, or a subplot overlooked and glossed away. Rain is cricket in England. This island is surrounded by rain, by a sea that at times curls itself up at the edges and takes to the skies. It might not rain every day, or rain in showy, flashy chart-topping dumps. This is a more nuanced relationship, rain as an unceasing possibility, a note in every conversation. Cricket is essentially an exercise in defiance of rain, a rebuke to the shadow of rain. T

He would do it in style, helped immeasurably by Plimley. He ripped down a flat arm-ball. It took an inside edge and ran down the hill towards third man. Plimley set off after it. He is a compact runner. He has Sonia Lannaman’s style and a milk float’s speed. He evokes the timpani. The ball ran. Plimley cha

:   Liam playing for the Maidens against the Trundlers and getting out for a duck Imagine what it would be like if in the Manchester derby, Wayne Rooney asked if he could play for City, or if Virat Kohli said to the Indian team manager that Pakistan were looking a bit short so he thought he’d play for the oppo. Well that was how it felt when our Liam sent me an email suggesting he would be a ‘turncoat’ for this game. So its fair to say we were rather keen to send Liam packing.

But little did he know that two Trundlers were going for the same ball. Unlike in the practice, there was silence all around. Not a call, not a word. As the fielders moved almost in slow motion (in fact it was in slow motion), the inevitable happened. A clattering of limbs and crimson caps flying through the air. The balled dropped to the ground.

We had served up a pretty intimidating 242 for three off 40 overs, and their challenge was looking pretty ropey, with the only one of their top seven managing to make double figures being Mitchell. :   The noise of the ball crashing into those ample hands is still ringing in my ear. I think it best to use the excerpt from Olly’s match report to describe this one: “In his place came Mr. Rose, a watchful cricketer. He took his guard and surveyed the field. He thought he apprehended a gap in the covers. He was mistaken. Kohler’s next ball sat up like a begging puppy. Rose drew himself up and thrashed it, a mighty blow, straight at that gap. It flew hard, downward and would have made quite a crate

Presumably that can only be unfair on the basis that he has actually dropped considerably more than a few. We have had some great fun at the Kiwis expense over the years but fair dinkum to him here. So hands up all those that had already turned for the next ball when Ollie hit the ball spiralling in the air towards Marcus with our hero staring into the sun.

:   A blinder. Fielding at short mid-on, smoking a fag and wearing a cheeky grin the Ritter-man did not flinch or consider pulling out - he stuck his hand low and gripped hard. It plugged. All that practice "feeding the horse" had finally paid off. This was a moment where the stunned silence was followed by a mighty roar. A good batsmen out to a fine catch - a phrase not repeated in too many write-ups this season. Hard to beat this as the man caught a bullet.

:   So inevitable the outcome, the umpire turned to the pavilion, the scorer began an acknowledging wave and started to ink in the runs, and Binns collected himself, hangdog. Frais leapt full-length to his right – nay, further than that – and dangled his hand an inch above the turf. The ball was travelling fast enough to have been red-shifted, and not a man on the park gave him a show in hell of stopping it. So exactly how the skipper came to hold it at all, let alone one handed, we will never know.
